The GLADIATOR Conductivity Smart Switch Series offers a simple, reliable way of sensing levels of conductive liquids. Hawk Measurement, a leading global provider of level, positioning and flow measurement technology, is introducing a new line of point level switches for conductive liquids. This type of switch is suitable for any situation where it is necessary to check the level of a liquid in a tank, including high or low level alarms, constant level control, pump control, and empty tank detection. A low voltage AC signal is applied between the probe electrode and the tank wall (or reference electrode in case of a non-metallic tank). When the liquid comes in contact with the electrode tip, a conductive path is established between the sense electrode and the metallic tank wall/reference electrode. Current flow due to the conductive path is sensed amplified and use to switch a relay for indication or control purposes. Conductivity Switches are suitable for most applications that involve a conductive liquid, including food and beverage processing, chemical, oil and gas, paint, paper, pharmaceutical, and water and wastewater treatment. The Conductivity Switch is available in two versions. The “Smart” compact version combines switching functions, local calibration and diagnostic communications (Goshawk/Modbus) in an economical all in one package. The “Remote” version has a separate amplifier, which can be located up to 500m away from the sensor probe. The amplifier includes relay outputs, and can also report to a supervisory control system via GosHawk, Modbus, HART, Devicenet or Profibus DP. A remote GSM connection is also available as an option. This allows any authorized user with a computer and a standard modem to calibrate, test or check on the performance of any Gladiator product from anywhere in the world.
